Korean Movie Night Series Two: The Remakes
 
Everyone is remaking Korean movies these days from the Bollywood version of Oldboy to the Hollywood versions of A Tale of Two SistersIl Mare and My Sassy Girl. With this series, we’re celebrating Korean movies that are slated for Hollywood remakes.
 
All movies are scheduled to be screened at Tribeca Cinema (54 Varick St. on Canal St.) All movie screenings are now based on a first-come, first-serve policy. Theatre doors will be opening at 6:30PM.
Director Ahn Byung-Ki will remake his gonzo horror film for Hollywood in association with the production company behind Twilightand The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

Dalton Baldwin Master Class

Renowned piano accompanist and vocal coach Dalton Baldwin will give a master class to young classical singers including SunYoung Chang (Soprano), Young Gyun Jo (Tenor), Byung Soo Cho (Bariton) and more.  Mr. Baldwin has collaborated with many of today's foremost singers, including Elly Amelling, Arleen AugerJessye Norman, Theresa Berganza, Frederica von Stade and Jose Van Dam. His outstanding partnership with baritone Gerard Souzay has taken him on tours throught the musical world. Together, they have made over fifty records, many of which have garnered international awards. Mr. Baldwin has recorded the complete songs of Faure, Debussy, Ravel, Roussel and Poulenc. He is in constant demand for master classes in the United States, Europe, and Asia.  He received an honorary doctorate of music from Oberlin Conservatory and was awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government.

The musicians of Lenox HillChamber Music New York Style

The musicians of Lenox Hill, under the artistic direction of flutist Soo-Kyung Park, will perform with all world-class artists who are violinist Ittai Shapira, violist Wei-Yang Andy Lin, cellist Alberto Parrini, pianist Jae-Hyuck Cho, and harpist Jessica Zhou. Each of the performers, who met as students at the Juilliard School, have already launched international solo and chamber music careers, performing with major orchestras and ensembles and winning many of the world’s most prestigious music competitions.
 
The program includes Three American Pieces for flute and piano by Lukas Foss, Gershwin’s Embraceable You and I've Got Rhythm arranged for solo piano by Earl Wilde, Dvok’s Piano Quartet No. 2 in Eb Major, B 162, Op.87 and Luminaria for violin and harp by Kenji Bunch, who has been called “a composer to watch” by theNew York Times and is quickly emerging as one of the most prominent American composers of his generation. The audience is invited to attend a dessert reception with the artists following the concert, celebrating the 12th annual concert.

World Piano Competition 2008 Gold Medalist Yoon Jung Han Debut Solo Recital

Yoonjung Han, Gold medalist at the 2008 World Piano Competition in Cincinnati, will make her debut solo recital at Alice Tully Hall. She will be playing part of her Gold Medalist award recital.
 
Han has also won First Prize at the Gina Bachauer Competition at Juilliard. In addition to gold medals at the Kosciuszko Chopin Competition, the Nena Wideman Piano Competition, and the Korea National Music Competition, she also garnered major prizes at the Helsinki Maj Lind International Piano Competition and Milan Concorso Pianistico Ettore Pozzoli Internaziole where she competed as the youngest pianist. Han was named the “Most Promising Young Artist” by the Korean Ministry of Culture and has since performed worldwide having appearing in major cities throughout the United States, Asia, and Europe. Han has recently performed as a soloist with the Buffalo Philharmonic, Helsinki Philharmonic, Houston Symphony, Banff Festival Orchestra, and I Pomeriggi Musicali di Milan, under such maestros as Joann Faletta and Leif Segerstam.
 
The program includes Haydn’s Sonata in E flat Major Hob. 52, Chopin’s Sonata in b minor Op. 58, Granados’s Los requiebros and El amor y la muerte (both from Goyescos), and Schumann’s Carnival.

KMF Debut Concert: Daniel Cho, Violin

Winner of the 2009 Great Mountains Music Festival Competition, Daniel Cho started playing the violin at the age of six. As a soloist, he has performed with Sejong Soloists, Anyang Chamber Orchestra and Sungnam Youth Symphony. Since 2005, he has participated in the Great Mountains International Music Festival (Gangwon Province, Korea) where he appeared in the Rising Star Series and performed with the Gangwon Youth Philharmonic. As a chamber musician, he has performed with the Rose of Sharon Quartet and went on tour as a member of Sejong Chamber Players to the Dominican Republic, Colombia and Costa Rica. Daniel Cho currently attends The Juilliard School’s Pre-College Division as a scholarship student studying with Hyo Kang. He has given numerous chamber music performances around New York City and in Korea, including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall (2008) as the result of winning the 10th New York Competition.  He is scheduled to record Mendelssohn Concerto in D minor for Violin, Piano and String Orchestra later this year for Universal label. Daniel Cho performs on a J. B. Guadagnini, 1758, on generous loan from Higgin Kim, Chairman of Byucksan Engineering Co. Ltd. This concert marks Daniel’s New York recital debut; he is the youngest artist presented in the KMF New York Debut Recital Series over the last 25 years.
 
The program includes the works by A. Corelli, E. Grieg, F. Chopin and H. Wieniawski and more.
